STEM Family Learning Day with Marshmallow Tower Challenge at Nanhe Elementary School

On March 29, 2025, Nanhe Elementary School hosted an engaging STEM family learning day featuring marshmallow tower construction challenges. Parents and children collaborated to design and build the tallest free-standing structures using only marshmallows and spaghetti. Families explored engineering principles including stability, balance, and geometric shapes while testing their structures' strength. The hands-on activity provided opportunities to discuss scientific concepts such as gravity and structural integrity through playful experimentation. Participants enthusiastically compared different building techniques, learning through trial and error. This interactive challenge successfully promoted family teamwork while introducing basic engineering concepts in an accessible, enjoyable format.
